WHERE TO GO IN APRIL
Travel Inspiration for APRIL
Before it gets too hot to handle in the summer, a trip to Jordan in April is just right for an outdoor adventure. Be awestruck by the “Rose City” of Petra and go camel caravan trekking in Wadi Rum, retracing the ancient trade routes the Bedouins once took. If culture is high on the wish list, you could also consider Bhutan. It celebrates a fascinating five-day religious festival at this time of year.
In April, Belize’s jungles are alive with active wildlife including the elusive jaguar, or you could take to the coastal waters in search of stingrays and sharks in Shark Ray Alley (you won’t be searching for long!). It’s also a pleasant time for a European villa holiday with a good dose of fine wine and exquisite cuisine readily available. Here’s a little inspiration, or you can contact us to discuss further recommendations.
BHUTAN
Bhutan is a sanctuary for the adventurous traveller. Hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest monastery, precariously perched on the craggy Himalayan outcrops. In March or April, witness the country’s five-day cultural and religious festival, Paro Tsechu, held in the imposing Paro Dzong fortress-monastery. Between the sightseeing take a spiritual breather – learn the Buddhist way from monks and practice meditation.

Thailand
Thailand celebrates its New Year on the 13th – 15th of April, known as the Songkran Festival. Locals and visitors come together to enjoy large-scale water fights across the larger cities, combined with music, food, and folk performances. After enjoying the festivities in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, take a short flight to the idyllic island of Koh Samui in the Gulf of Thailand to re-energise and feast on deliciously fresh Tom Yum or Pad Thai.

Belize
April coincides with Belize’s dry season meaning, less muddy trails and more active wildlife. This is the case at Chan Chich Lodge in the heart of the Maya rainforest. Take a night walk on the lookout for ocelots, pumas and the elusive jaguar. Swap the jungle for the pristine sands of a private island hideaway. Snorkel the clear waters, or to get the adrenalin pumping, head to Shark Ray Alley to swim with nurse sharks and southern stingrays.

Jordan
Getting your first glimpse of ancient Petra will take your breath away; viewing it in the evening by moonlight and candles makes it even more spectacular. Jordan also offers the chance to float effortlessly and comfortably (it’s too hot in the summer!) in the Dead Sea, an experience on many travellers’ bucket lists. Explore the Bedouin culture in the vast Wadi Rum desert and don’t forget to sample street food, such as mezze and baklava.

Brazil
April in Brazil follows the busy carnival time earlier in the year meaning you can explore the coastal cities at a less crowded, more leisurely pace. Rio is always a highlight with the iconic sight of Christ the Redeemer, the cable car journey up Sugarloaf Mountain or strolling barefoot on Copacabana beach. Head to the Amazon with its weaving waterways to have a go at piranha fishing or swim with pink river dolphins in their natural habitat.
