WHERE TO GO IN JANUARY
Travel Inspiration for January
Surely there’s no better way to start a new year than a holiday. Maybe you’re looking to recharge after the happy chaos of the festive period or to take advantage of the fresh snow on the slopes without the crowds? Southern Europe’s temperate climate makes for a comfortable visit, but you’ll need to head a little further afield if you’re craving some warmth.
Below we share some of our top destination recommendations for travel in January. Maybe you see yourself sailing the turquoise waters of the Maldives, watching the sunrise from the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, or taking a tuk-tuk ride in Jaipur? We’d be happy to have a chat and help you settle on a holiday that best sets you up for your year ahead.
Maldives
January in the Maldives is simply beautiful, with warm temperatures averaging 29°c and minimal rainfall. The clear skies and calm seas create perfect visibility for underwater adventures among coral reefs – it’s peak season for manta ray spotting, particularly around Baa Atoll. With over 1000 islands, there’s so much choice – we can help find the one that’s just right for you.

Tanzania & Zanzibar
January brings perfect, dry conditions to Tanzania and Zanzibar, ideal for safaris and beach relaxation. In the Serengeti, witness part of the Great Migration as wildebeest calving season begins. You’ll need to allow around three weeks if you want to combine a safari experience, explore Mount Kilimanjaro and enjoy the beaches of Zanzibar (temperatures are around 28°c), and there’s plenty of scope for shorter adventures too.

kenya
Kenya is famed for its exceptional game viewing, including the Maasai Mara and Laikipia. The abundant wildlife, striking scenery and rich culture make Kenya a great choice for a first safari holiday. The greener landscape at this time of year makes for easier wildlife spotting, or for even better views, why not take to the skies in a hot air balloon? Combine this with nights on the coast, such as the long stretches of warm, clear waters in Diani.

chile
January is peak summer in Chile, with long daylight hours allowing lots of time for exploration. In Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park enjoys temperatures around 20°c, great for wildlife spotting, but you may want to head to lesser-visited areas to avoid the crowds. Other highlights include stargazing in the Atacama Desert, sipping wine in the Maipo Valley region, or relishing the cultural festivals in the capital, Santiago.

india
January’s warm, sunny and dry conditions make it a great time to explore wonderful India. Northern regions like Rajasthan and Agra reach a comfortable 20°c; if heading to see the Taj Mahal, we recommend a sunrise visit to avoid the crowds. At this time of year, wildlife spotting in the national parks is particularly good, with increased chances of seeing tigers and leopards. Kerala and Goa are warmer options, combining both culture and beach.
