A SPRING BREAK at LOUMA COUNTRY HOTEL IN DORSET, ENGLAND

I’ve just returned from the most FABULOUS stay at Louma Country Hotel in Dorset.

Louma isn’t just somewhere you stay, it’s somewhere you feel completely looked after from the moment you arrive. The owners are South African and you can certainly tell this from the warm service and attention to detail.

Set in the heart of Dorset’s Marshwood Vale, Louma Country Hotel is a charming 17-key boutique country hotel set within 100 acres of rolling farmland. A working estate with horse stables, free-roaming livestock, and a flourishing 33-acre vineyard, Louma offers an immersive countryside experience with sweeping views over the Jurassic Coast.

Louma strikes that rare balance between understated luxury and genuine warmth. It feels less like a hotel and more like being welcomed into an impeccably designed private home, where every detail has been thoughtfully considered. Also it is only open to hotel guests, so offers real privacy.

What truly sets Louma apart is the experience as a whole. The managers Joe and Laura (who are also very entertaining hosts), have created something very special here, effortless hospitality paired with a deeply personal touch. The team around them are equally impressive: warm, attentive, and intuitive without ever being overbearing. There’s an ease to everything at Louma that immediately puts you at rest.

One of the standout features and a major draw is that all meals are included. This isn’t typical all-inclusive dining; it’s a carefully curated culinary experience. Each meal is beautifully prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients, with a clear focus on quality and flavour. Dining becomes a highlight of the stay rather than an afterthought, and there’s something incredibly indulgent about never needing to plan a single meal.

It’s just a 45-minute walk downhill to the beach, picnic baskets can be arranged and Louma will happily come and collect you if you don’t fancy the walk back. There are also various walking trails around the beautiful estate.

The Louma wine tasting experience with Michelle is another highlight, relaxed, engaging, and thoughtfully done, whether you’re knowledgeable about wine or simply keen to enjoy it. It adds an extra layer to the overall experience and complements the food perfectly.

As for the Wellness barn and spa, this is a fabulous space, with an indoor pool, plus a large heated outdoor pool, sauna and a state-of-the-art gym. There are a range of spa treatments offering the perfect opportunity to unwind and reset, from massages and facials to wellness rituals. Yoga in the barn with Emily, whilst listening to the bleating of new-born lambs was quite something!

And then there are the rest of the animals, which bring a unique charm and personality to Louma. From pigs to sheep, cows to chickens, not to mention a stable full of horses, suitable for every rider.

Louma is not a traditional hotel, it’s intimate, full of character and quietly luxurious. It’s ideal for those looking to switch off, be looked after, and enjoy a stay that feels both elevated and deeply personal. It is a complete countryside escape, designed for indulging, and reconnecting with nature in an effortlessly elegant setting.

This is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave and one I’ll certainly be recommending without hesitation.
